Amazing VGM: Prince Ferdinand Themes (Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure)

Happy Valentines Day everyone! Today, as in the day this is being posted, is a very special day where we commemorate the execution and martyrdom of Saint Valentine by taking each other on expensive dates and giving each other cards with candy if we are still kids… or by wallowing in our own misery if we are single. Don’t give up hope though, I’m sure you’ll find love someday as long as you don’t make anti-SJW videos on Youtube!

As for myself, as silly and ironic as it would be to post my Slave Witch April review on Valentines Day, I’d like to take this chance to talk about a game near and dear to my heart. I really want to get around to replaying Rhapsody and giving it a full review, but I figure today is the perfect chance to talk about its beautiful music, and you better be damn sure the soundtrack is amazing with a title like that. It did not disappoint.

Amazing VGM: Smiles & Tears (EarthBound)

Another years has come to a close, and It is time for me to end this year the same way as I usually do, with a highly emotional ending theme from one of my favorite games of all time. EarthBound holds a near and dear place in my heart, and I can’t help but become super emotional whenever I listen to its music or play it. Hell just speaking about it now makes me want to replay it.

And it is also quite appropriate since 2020 was a highly emotional year. It’s been kind of a meme about how much this year has sucked, but it did end on a positive note with Trump losing re-election. And yes, that doesn’t mean all of our problems are gone, but after four years of this asshole, it’s a relief to see him go the fuck away. And maybe things will start to get at least a little bit better.

Amazing VGM: Fortitudo [In Labors And Dangers] (Bayonetta)

Damn, it’s already been close to five months since I wrote my review of Bayonetta. Time seems to pass by so damn quickly without me even realizing it. So much shit has happened since then, but I only mentioned that because I needed a segue. So yes, Bayonetta has an absolutely superb musical score. And this track is the first of many from this game I hope to cover at some point.

Amazing VGM: Face Shrine (The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening)

It just now occurred to me that I have not covered a Zelda song in either Amazing VGM or its predecessor I wrote on that site that will not be acknowledged. I actually just beat the Switch version of Link’s Awakening about a month ago, and I enjoyed it, but I won’t be reviewing it given that I’m too behind on shit to write reviews for, and that this is one of those games that has been reviewed to death. In short, I’m not reviewing it because I have too much on my plate already, and wanted to prioritize the games I felt like talking about more.

But it’s also that I don’t have overly strong opinions on Link’s Awakening. It wasn’t bad or anything, and I enjoyed it, but I also wouldn’t include it among my favorites in the series.I’m sure there is some irony in that a site called Guardian Acorn isn’t covering the game that it’s namesake came from, but there is thankfully another game with a guardian acorn in it that I’m going to be reviewing in the near future. I bet you can’t guess which game it is though.

Amazing VGM: 言い返す のよ(Talk Back) (Cosmic Star Heroine)

Cosmic Star Heroine has an amazing soundtrack. I’ve established as much in my review of this game, and this game could very well become a regular contender if I actually get back to doing these pieces weekly again. I’ve also implied quite heavily that my favorite character is Indie Band front woman Lauren. Oh gee, who could possibly guess why my favorite character is the sexy green haired lady with an attitude and a disrespect for traditional authority figures?

Amazing VGM: Sealed Door (Chrono Trigger)

So we all agree Chrono Trigger is amazing, and we all agree that it’s music is also amazing. I have considered replaying it for review purposes, but something something backlog too big blah blah blah you heard it all before. So I did the next best thing and watched Chuggaaconroy’s lets play of it. I remember a time when the most subscribed lets player on Youtube actually made videos for the fun of it as opposed to making them to cash in on fads. Yes I know he only covered this game last year, but we are talking about a game about time travel so… okay fuck it, I was just feeling nostalgic… and spiteful.

Amazing VGM: Sin (Saya no Uta)

Saya no Uta really is something to behold. There are so few games that are as horrifying yet also as beautiful as this one, and I’ve meant to cover a track from this game for quite some time. The most well known tracks from this game seem to be the discomforting atmospheric tracks like “schizophrenia,” but I don’t think they best represent the game in question.

Amazing VGM: 28 (Rosenkreuzstilette)

This just in, this blog talks about games and not just politics! Yeah, last three posts have been political, not counting a review I deleted due to… reasons I don’t want to go into. I figure I’ve been overdue on another Amazing VGM entry as well. So picking a game at random we have… well, just look at the title. No, not every track in the game is a number, it’s just a title scheme for tracks created by artist AM3 for the game. AM3 is not very good at coming up with song titles.

Amazing VGM: The Eight Melodies (EarthBound Beginnings)

Oh what’s this? Annie has remembered that her Amazing VGM series exists after not posting one since May? Yeah, this series has been put on the back burner for quite some time. Really this blog, in general, was more of a side thing since I have been so heavily focused on political activism as of late, and thus when I found time to write gaming content, it was for my standard reviews. Of course I still need to finish a few of those and I don’t know how soon I’ll get back to doing these, but I have thought back to my Amazing VGM piece on NieR Automata’s “Weight of the World. ”

I just re-read that piece and I forgot how touching it was. Generally my Amazing VGM pieces are short and and quick, but I basically used this piece to speak to both the current state of the world and my own personal life. The same went for my piece on “Reunited ” from Undertale, and I wrote that one before I even had this blog. Considering how emotional this year has been for me, it is only right that I continue this tradition, and to make it even more poetic, I will re-write the last pre Guardian Acorn VGM piece that I needed to revise, Earthbound Beginning’s “The Eight Melodies.” For the purposes of this piece, I will be sticking to official arrangements.

Amazing VGM: Disturbed Runaway ((Mario) The Music Box – ARC)

Actually knowing of and playing a game like (Mario) The Music Box – ARC feels special in and of itself. I consider myself somewhat of an explorer when it comes to games. I focus less on whatever games everyone else says are good and more so the idea that you never know what you are going to get. A game like (Mario) The Music Box is already pretty weird simply because it’s a horror game starring the video game equivalent to Mickey Mouse, but the sequel is unique enough that it would stick out even without the Mario universe attached to it.

Note that this piece will contain MAJOR SPOILERS for (Mario) The Music Box – ARC!! I’m willing to bet a fair number of you haven’t played this game, so if you have any interest in doing so then it is strongly recommended that you DO NOT read the rest of this piece.
